All trees are shipped Bare Root...     Castanea mollissima or chinese chestnut can be used as a shade tree, or planted in rows as a windbreak. Displays wonderful edible nuts in winter. The Chinese chestnut is not susceptible to the blight that virtually wiped out the American chestnut. The plants are self sterile so more than one seedling or variety must be planted. Rainy weather during flowering, in July, will reduce fruit set. Has moderate water requirements and a moderate tolerance for salt and alkali soils.
