The new Air-X generators have internal charging regulators, so you can connect directly to your battery bank without any other charge controllers. The folding tripod is sized to hold 1.5 inch Schedule 40 pipe (1.875 inch OD) - same as the Air-X generator. You need to supply the pipe, most hardware stores have 10 foot lengths of iron pipe for around $30. I suggest at least a 10 foot length so the spinning blades are well out of reach. Now for the cautions! I'm quite sure Southwest would not recommend this configuration without guy wires and augers to secure everything. I highly recommend that the tripod feet be firmly staked into the ground - or better yet screwed into something big like a sheet of plywood (with cement blocks to keep it down). This rig can be quite top-heavy with a 16 pound generator mounted up high.
