If we go to the grocery story and see a dented can or a wrecked package, we push it aside and get a nice looking one. Don't do that here! I bought these with a set of "good box" new machines and didn't know what to expect. The boxes are terrible. Really bad. Turns out they are water damaged. Interestingly enough (and I was skeptical) the fresh air units inside, the instructions and extra plate, the remote - batteries, screwdriver and the electrical cord are in perfect condition. These were in a basement with a few inches of water. The water seeped up the box sides like a wick. They were never under water or anything close to that. The boxes do not smell funny (clean water). Everything inside has a protective bag from the factory except the electrical cord. Look in the picture as the electrical cord looks very new (and is). There are a few package inserts and they did get damp. These inserts are not very important and are included if legible. They were not inside an original factory Ziploc bag like the instructions and warranty card. If you have read this far, I will state it plain :-) These are new units in an ugly box. They are being offered at a great price. You have 7 days to evaluate and see for yourself that these are new without defect. If you subscribe to not choosing a book by its cover, you can get a new fresh air for a lower price ($50-$75 off my normal price). These may go fast (The 4 walnut color FAs like this I sold this last weekend went very quickly). I have 3 listed (the "buy it now" is for 1 unit) each the same top quality. Each has an ugly box. I will ship the ugly box with original styrofoam inserts to protect the unit. They will also come in a brown outer box (double boxed) for added protection. Please see our feedback ... you will not be disappointed.
