Description
Myotts Staffordshire Royal Crown gravy +plate Seville This listing is for an absolutely exquisite antique gravy boat with separate underplate which was made and hand decorated in Staffordshire, England by Myott's. The pattern name is "Seville 2278" and it was produced from the early 1920s until 1949 (Myott's factory was destroyed in a fire in 1949). This particular piece is a gravy boat with pedestal foot and matching, separate underplate. This is a very rare piece as the underplate was typically attached to the gravy boat. It has an ivory background with fruit urns, a yellow band and blue scrolls. Some fruit in the urns is raised in a moriage style (done with enamel as opposed to clay) for added beauty.  Gravy boat (when not on plate) measures approx.  8 1/2" in overall length x 3 1/2" deep x 2 5/8" high at outside edge of bowl (handle is slightly higher). Underplate measures approx. 9 1/8" long x 6 1/4" deep x 1" in overall height at outside edges. Marked on  bottom of gravy boat with a crown over the oval which holds the words "Royal Crown, Myott's". Right of the oval is another Myott stamp (brown in color) which shows a crown and words "Myott, Son & Co.". There are 2 additional artists marks/signatures....one appears to be dot and symbol in red, one looks like a blue "X". Marked on bottom of underplate with a crown over the oval which holds the words "Royal Crown, Myott's, Staffordshire, England" and the word "England stamped in brown above it. There are 4 artists marks....one is a blue "X", one looks like an orange "Z" (could be an "S" or "2"), one that is some sort of orange symbol and a pair of gold colored hash marks.   Both gravy and underplate are in MINT condition with light utensil marks on plate (none on gravy), high luster on both, and no crazing, nicks, chips or cracks. Enameled moriage is complete and in tact. Transferware pattern is also complete with good color and depth. Gold edge shows light wear. NOTE:  The original marks from sitting on a rack in the kiln during manufacture show on the bowl (bottom side). These are not nicks or damage and are indicative of how these old pieces were made. This is part of an entire set which we will be offering on eBay. There are place settings and serving pieces, each offered in separate sales.  Please make payment within 3 days of sale close. Our brick & mortar is in an older part of Eugene which affords access to some unbelievable antiques and collectables. We are always amazed when everyday items from an earlier time manage to survive decades, remaining in pristine condition. We're also surprised by the radical changes in our communication and life styles over the past 60 years! On another note, we especially want your experience with our firm to be a pleasant one and believe good communication is the key.  Because of that, our policies and procedures are listed below. Customer service is our most important job. In an effort to keep your costs down we offer our commercial FedEx services to buyers on heavy items.  Acceptable payment methods are Paypal, Visa, MC, money orders, cashier's check and personal or business check (with a 10 day wait on those last two). It is important that you're happy with your purchase and we want you to let us know via email if you're not.  We work hard to be thorough in our descriptions but sometimes we miss things.  We realize we're not perfect and we want your buying experience to be positive. Be on the lookout for our 4startraders.com website.  It's filled with great old cowboy collectables, antiques in general, fishing and hunting supplies, used tack and lots of the unusual and hard to find!
