Description
AMERICAN RUBY CUT TO CLEAR GLASSTALL DECANTER LIBBEY NASH SERIES VERY BEAUTIFUL!! SIGNED LIBBEY This is a ruby to clear cut glass decanter. It is a Nash Series piece. Extremely rare, Libbey Nash items were only produced for one year. At the time that they were sold, they were very expensive because most companies had stopped cutting glass by hand. The economy had forced much of the market to make pressed, molded and machine made glass. Libbey had their workers still cutting by hand, which took a great amount of time and money. It is signed on the underside of the foot by Libbey. The Libbey Glass Company has operated out of Toledo, Ohio since 1884. Since their opening, Libbey has always been of the foremost producers of glass. This piece can be seen on page 15-E of the Libbey Nash Series catalog. The photo shown below is from page 348 of the book Libbey Glass by C. Fauster. This piece measures approx. 13” tall and 5 ½” long and 5” wide at the widest part. It weighs just under 2 lbs. The stopper is steeple shaped at the top and cut with channel miters. There is a round knob at the base of the stopper that is cut with a chain of oval punties. The top of this decanter has a flared opening. The long slender neck is cut with fluting. At the base of the neck, there is a chain of small punties in a miter outlined circle. Below this, the body flares very wide and is cut with tapered flutes which are separated by a fine miter. The body has a a ring of round punties at the midsection which is the widest point of the piece. Under this, the body tapers in sharply and is also cut with the same type of fluting as the upper half. The foot is colorless and is cut with a 48 point rayed star on the underside. This piece is in excellent condition. There are no chips, flakes or cracks. The blank is clear with a nice white color and the glass is free of residue. This signed Libbey decanter is highly collectible due to the rare Nash series. The shape of this piece is very unique. Libbey was noted for the brilliance and quality of their glass. This one is no exception. The shape is eye-catching, and it will be gorgeous displayed in your show case. This rare piece would be a fantastic piece for any glass collector.
