Description
The Camark Pottery Company, which was established in Camden, Arkansas in 1926, was started with an ambition to profit from the booming pottery industry that started in Ohio. Through the years that the company operated, changes in artists, production technique, style trends, and economic trends led to drastic changes in the pottery produced, and Camark is known for its perseverance to accommodate the industry of pottery. And this pitcher is a fabulous example of Camark artistry. The only other pitcher of this style that I could find on-line was black and white in coloration, and it had a hairline. This pitcher, on the other hand, is a rich green color, and the cat is a vibrant yellow. As you can see from the second and third photos, this pitcher has its original labeling both on its side and on the bottom. The bottom tag indicates that it is shape 088, and its finish is 40. And the pitcher looks like it's never been used - as you can see, the cat climbing up the pitcher's side is also the pitcher's handle. The cat is remarkable, with a long tail, and the cat's body looks very much like a cat would look climbing into a pitcher of cream! The pitcher would be great to use as a cream pitcher, and would also be ideal for serving water, gravy, syrup, sauce, whatever you wish! The pitcher stands 7" tall, and to reiterate, it's in great shape - no chips, cracks, glaze issues or signs of wear. A fantastic find for the collector, this is a rare piece that would accent any collection. Please let me know if you'd like more photos or information emailed to you, and thanks for looking!
