I was told this castor was pictured on the front cover of Bernice Thach's reference book "The American Pickle Castor" with the same "Hobbs - Brockunier Canoe Shaped - Daisy & Button" insert in canary vaseline glass ( It is on FIRE under a black light !! second to last photo ). As castors go this is quite large and impressive looking more like a small Brides Basket than a pickle castor with wonderful antique tongs in the shape of "bird feet".....gotta love it ! If your looking for something special to add to your collection of Victorian vaseline art glass or Victorian decor this piece has a lot of visual impact and is quite frankly one of the harder to find ...."documented".... pickle castors found on the market today . It stands 10-1/4" tall, 8" from side to side and about 6" across where the glass inserts rest . The insert measures 8" long , 3-1/2" tall and 3" wide (all measurements are approximate). As for condition . . . Considering it's 100+ years of age the ORIGINAL silver plate on the ornately embellished frame is in excellent condition , with little to no plate wear and it shined up quite beautifully . The vaseline glass insert is also in over all excellent condition with absolutely NO chips , cracks or repairs . As you can see in the pictures it displays beautifully !
