Rue. (Bennington was a big producer of this type of ware but many other pottery used this type of glaze, I was told this is Swan Hill or J.L. Rue but I am no expert) Yellow ware , slip cast with mottled brown Rockingham-type glaze. Features hunt scene with two mounted horsemen, three hounds chasing a stag in forest setting.  Branch Twig form handle, floral scrollwork border GORGEOUS OLD 1800s YELLOWARE / YELLOW WARE POTTERY DESIGN MEASURES APPROX. 6 3/4" x 6 1/2" X 7" TALL ~ HOLDS 1 1/4 QUARTS NICE STRONG HANDLED PRESENTATION TYPE ALE BEER JUG IN GREAT CONDITION WITH NO MAJOR CHIPS OR CRACKS BUT DOES HAVE A SOME CHIPPING ON THE TOP OF THE HANDLE AND A CHIP RIM THIS IS VERY OLD MAJOLICA MOLTTED TAN & BROWN YELLOWARE / YELLOW WARE POTTERY SHOWS WELL Dating from somewhere between the 1880's - 1900's, this beautiful piece of pottery has fabulous Brown salt glaze inside and out. The glaze stops short of the bottom and the underside ring of this bulbous-shaped pot is unglazed. The theory behind this has to do with the storage of liquids or other food items.... redware pots and jugs were placed on the floors of cellars and the unglazed portion would absorb the cool moisture of the ground, keeping the contents cool and fresh without contamination because the insides were fully glazed.
