Description
Here we are offering a truly exceptional piece of Art and History.  This is an early work by John Bennett.             The vase stands approx. 5” high and is signed Bennett, 101 Lex Ave. NY  /77           There are no chips or cracks.              John Bennett (1840 – 1907)  was an American (of English decent) potter who was active from 1876 – 1882.  He opened his first kiln in 1876 on Lexington Ave. in New York City and then later moved to 24th Street.  His work was well known for its high glaze earthenware and was in great demand, commanding high prices.  The shapes were simple and the decorations consisted mainly of flowers and foliage.  He originally imported English biscuit clay, but eventually devised his own mixture.    His pieces are extremely hard to find for purchase and most examples are in various museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art.               I am sorry I had to put a reserve on this piece, but it is still well under the market value.     Check out my other items!   Please Read   Please email with any questions and be sure to visit our other auctions for more quality and unique items.
