Salto!' Description Rare Art Deco Stoneware Figural Sculpture by A. Salto! Offering for sale, what appears to be a very unique and possibly rare Art Deco stoneware figural sculpture in excellent feldspathic and flowing iron glazes. Incised signature to lower reverse “A SALTO” (to be accurate, the o is partially obscured by form and glaze, the “S” is in stylized squared print form, see pic). Possibly a studio or shared studio example by Axel Salto, unknown or unique, not accompanied by any Royal Copenhagen markings. A wonderful expressionist stylized example of a reclining male in trousers with a string upper torso with deep sculpting attention to large muscle groups, head reclining on bent arm, face peering slightly down in a reflective pose. Hands and feet are highly stylized, form in general shows a high degree of Art Deco Modernism in composition. Condition as extremely fine, expertly conserved over the years, no stains, scratches chips or cracks could be found. In a firing red -brown stoneware. Stands 26 cm in length, 11.5 cm in height, 6 cm at widest. Please see all pics, this example was professionally manufactured, an artist potter studio example, performed with a high level of sculpting knowledge and expertise, with much attention given to muscular definition and fabric draping, facial expression and detail is profound, gray-white and iron oxide spotted and braking glazes in black and reddish brown are quite impressive.
