Thanks, Carlos Insider info--- Almost all of the electric companies in the US have scheduled 100% price increases in 2008. That's right, by this time next year you most likely be paying double the amount for electricity as you are now. When employees of power companies started calling me wanting to buy one of these units I started to wonder about the future of electricity rates. I asked them why they would want to buy one, why are they so concerned? They told me all about their companies plans to drastically increase the rates. I thought they received discounted rates for electricity. I was wrong. One power company employee told me. 'sure we get cheap electricity...as much as we can carry home in a bucket!' Auction is for the Standard Skystream 3.7 Head Unit only. The head unit includes the aluminum Head unit housing, mounting flange, electronic components, inverter, 3 blades, blade hub, nose cone, data transmitter w/antenna and 360' swiveling/rotating assembly. Except for the blades which must be bolted on, the head unit comes shipped as one complete component which bolts easily onto the monopole. Price Quotes for a complete set up -- (subject to change as my product cost and shipping charges increase): This quote includes the Skystream 3.7 (standard or Marine version) head unit, monopole (3 to choose from), foundation anchor bolt kit, hinge plate kit, and gin pole kit and shipping to your commercial address (must be able to unload tower yourself)                                      Standard      Marine w/33.5 ft monople=        $8,760         $9,284 w/45 ft monopole =        $9,730         $10,255  w/50 ft monopole =        $11,490       $12,090 w/60 ft monopole=         $13,690       $14,215   the 45ft and 60ft towers are non-hinged and require a crane and operator to erect.   Just call or email me and let me know exactly what you want and I will set up an auction specifically for you.   A 50ft monopole tower will generate approximately 30-35% MORE electricity than a 33.5 foot tower. Martin A:  Yes that is true, but you can have a battery bank set up and then it will start working again even if the grid is still down. Let me know if you have more questions Carlos 301-252-0042   Q:  Can this be mounted on top of a telephone pole? A:  It is not recommended but it can be done if you guy-wire it. Please call me or email me directly with more questions. Thanks, Carlos 301-252-0042 or tomahawkcmf@aol.com   Q:  Do you sell verticle generators? A:  PacWind is going out of business. Their products could never measure up to what they said they could do. There is a reason why there are no commercial vertical axis turbines....they do not work nearly as well as horizontal axis turbines. In a 3 blade vertical axis design for example: one blade is being pushed by the wind (good), one blade is in turbulence (bad), and the other blade is bein pushed into the wind (very bad). Please call me or email me directly with more questions. Thanks, Carlos 301-252-0042 or tomahawkcmf@aol.com   Q:  Hi I need a wind generator or something to be able to operate 2 A/C that need about 850W each and 2 A/C that need about 1.2KW each what do you recommend I do to be able to supply these 4 A/C's. I live in Aruba in the Caribbean on my Electricity bill says I use about 1426 KWH let me know what you think and what you have for me and price A:  If you are still connected to the grid and plan to stay that way then you will need 2 Skystreams. Price is 4595 plus shipping to Aruba each. Is Aruba 50hz or 60hz? Please call me or email me directly with more questions. Thanks, Carlos 301-252-0042 or tomahawkcmf@aol.com   Q:  what is the life expectancy of these windmills? A:  The Skystream's are designed with a life expectancy of 20 years.   Q:  What do you have that we can use to hook it up to the grid? We are looking at no having batteries but to back feed the meter. We also have lots of comunication tower sections at our disposal can this be used for mounting? thanks A:  The Skystream is a Direct Grid Tie design which satisfies your needs perfectly. It requires no batteries and automatically back-feeds your meter. Call me and we can discuss your tower set-up. I will tell you if it sounds safe.   Q:  I am in Maine and The hill I would like to put this on is approx 200 feet from my truck garage which has a breaker panel connected to the main panel in the house could this be wired to connect to the panel in the garage and still use the power from a bank of batteries in the garage so as to have power when the grid goes down which happens quite often here? Would I have to manuelly disconnect the switch ever time the power went off or does it does it automatically as the propane fired generator I have does? A:  Yes you can wire it into the house via the garage. Yes you can link it into your battery bank. If your propane generator produces a pure sine wave output then the Skystream and it will work together seamlessly. It is hard to explain so please call me when you get a chance. Carlos 301-252-0042 tomahawkcmf@aol.com   Q:  We use about 4,500kw on our farm monthly. Do you have a system that would cover this or at least half. If so can you give me a price on everything that I would need to get the system in running order. I live in the Texas Panhandle where we have gusts of wind 50-70 miles per hour. I don't know if you need this information to determine which system I will need. Could you email me some literature on your products. Thank you. A:  With those kinds of winds you would need 2 Skystreams. I would recommend a larger unit from a different manufacturer if I thought it would be a better deal for you...but they aren't. The Skystream is the most efficient unit on the market and produces more watts per dollar than any other system by far. email me directly and I will send you all the info I have. Carlos 301-252-0042 tomahawkcmf@aol.com   Q:  google tis item, and ad the word "junk" A:  Is this coming from personal experience or just doing a google search? The company has underone dramatic internal changes and is now more focused on its products and customer service than ever before. If you ever have a problem SWWP will make it right and I will help. Send me your Skystream's serial # and a description of the problem and I will make sure it gets fixed. Carlos 301-252-0042   Q:  So how do you put the turbine on top of one of the non tilting towers a crane and a skylift? How hard is it to do it that way? How does it connect doing it that way? Thanks A:  You bolt the turbine onto the pole with the wiring already connected and lift it all at once with a crane. It is not hard since you have to rent the crane, and hire the operator. You have to have the wire coming out of the concrete and up the tower, so you have to be very careful.   Q:  Carlos, my home is set within alot of trees but there is higher ground nearby that would produce sufficient wind. How far is too far for this unit to still be effective? A:  500 feet is probably as far as you would want to go. Any further is still possible but the cost of the thicker wiring required sends your installation costs soaring. Q:  Can I mount it on top of a tree? I have two acres with large pine and oak. It is more windy here in the hills and I am on a rise with fields west and east. Is there a website that can tell me how much wind I get here? I am in orchard country close to Adams county south central PA. Is there a way to get it to work during an outage by turning off the main breaker? Curt A:  NO, Yes, Yes. Call me 301-252-0042 Q:  Hi Carlos, Hablas Espanol?? I have a concrete house in Puerto Rico. The wind speed is 10-25 mph. It's possible put the tower and generator upper the roof of the house? This wind turbine generate much vibration, noise or sound?? The house have 25 fts tall. (the 10-25 mph measurement are available in the roof, because I live nearly to the beach). Thanks for your help!! A:  Depending on how strong your roof concrete is you should be able to use a 5" pipe with guy wires to mount your Skystream. The Skystream does produce some vibration, especially at higher wind speeds, but it should not be a factor if your house is concrete. It produces a vibration similar to roof mounted air conditioning system which are popular in PR. Your house is in a great location for a wind turbine. You will need to get the Marine version which will give it protection from the salt water. Q:  how hard is it to spin the blade by hand? is it hard or does it spin very easily? A:  It spins very easily. You can even spin the main shaft by hand without the blades being on.   Q:  Hello if the power grid goes down, tree falls into wire, ice, or for whatever reason, will i still have power as long as it is spinning.thanks A:  No, the skystream shuts off when power from the grid goes down. It will turn on again if you have a battery bank or a generator( must be pure sine wave output) for back up power.   Q:  Hi, I will be purchasing one of these in about 6 months from you possibly. I am a wind turbine tech for GE in west Texas. My question to you is this, is anyone making a fiberglass monopole for these generators and do you think it can be done if not, I am thinking a steel base and upper tower stem laminated to the fiberglass, have a carboard hollow core that is wrapped with fiberglass. The cost of the towers with these is the only thing holding these back I think from really taking off, I just can't justify 3850 for a 32ft pole. Think if these could be brought down to about $700, how many more would you sale? Or do they have a kit to mount to a wood telephone pole? Also have they worked out the problems with the wireless controls yet? Thanks Brandon A:  The issues with the remote have been resolved. My price for the 33ft monopole is $2,700 shipped. Who ever quoted you $3,850 is really trying to ripp you off. Fiberglass poles are not being made for the Skystreams currently. Most likely they will cost much more than the steel towers currently produced. It is a good idea. There is an adapter for a 5" pipe that you could use on the top of the telophone pole but you would still have to guy wire the telephone pole. It just can't handle the 'moment' (thrust on the pole from the wind acting on the turbine) generated in higher winds and will snap in half sooner rather than later if it is not guyed. Question & Answer Q:  I am in need of 4 of these units. Turbine Heads. Southwest Wind directed me to a distributer who quoted $5,100.00 each without shipping. I also need two 33 foot monopoles two 42 inch J bolt kits, two tower adapter kits, one hinge plate and 1 gin pole. Can you quote these items as a distributer from Southwest Wind. A:  We have the lowest prices in the country on the Skystream's and all the accessories. Call me Carlos 301-252-0042. Q:  Dear Carlos, For my standing, the shipping is free. Is it right? What's the size of it? I mean dimensions for the shipping package. Which shipper are you going to use? How long does it take to NJ? Thank you so much! A:  The shipping for the head unit is free within the lower 48 states. The pallet for the head unit measures 2ft x 3ft and is normally sent FedEx. Anywhere in the US usually takes 2 weeks. Q:  we have winds that reach 70 to 80 mph for several hours will this unit stand up to those winds can the 60 ' tower be modified to a hinge plate A:  The Skystream head unit shuts down at 62 mph wind speed to protect the unit from over heating. The head itself and tower are designed to withstand 140 mph sustained winds and 182 mph gusts. There is a hinge kit for the 45ft and 60ft unhinged towers that is under development. It can be removed after tilting up the tower or can be left on for easy raising and lowering of the tower. Thanks for your interest. Carlos 301-252-0042 Q:  Have found your q&a very informative . Don't know how you do it , many of the questions are repeated and answered so many times . You have great pr skills keep up the good work . thanks for the info carlos . bye A:  I have answered each of those questions a zillion times! I figured that if I put the q&a's on the auction people might actually read them and get a feel of what I know and maybe make them feel more comfortable about dealing with me. Most other folks selling the turbines don't know squat about the products they are selling. Let me know if you have any questions! :) Carlos (301) 252-0042   Q:  you have a pic of a pacwind generator on your ebay listing are you selling pacwind turbines? if so please email pricing for on grid systems We live 20 mile north of Ft Collins CO zip is 80612 Thanks Rod A:  We are dealers for Pacwind turbines. The Delta I 2kw unit has an MSRP of $3,999. Additionally, youwill need a grid tie inverter and a battery bank. We can sell the Delta I and an Outback grid tie inverter to you for $5,500. Shipping will be an additional $350. Thanks for your interest. Call with any questions. Carlos 301-252-0042.   Q:  Hi, we live off-grid in Central Oregon and I've been looking at wind generators. I see in one of your pictures a pacwind generator, perhaps you sell them also. Do you recommend pacwind, or skystream in low-mid wind conditions? Thanks, C. A:  Yes we do sell Pacwind wind turbines. Jay Leno has recently installed them on the roof of his antique car garage/museum and that is creating alot of 'buzz' for the company. The Pacwind line of turbines is more ideally suited for higher wind areas. Where the photo is taken the avg yearly wind speed is 12mph. Unless we are getting gusts of 30mph or more the Skystream is producing 3-4 times the power af the Pacwind at any given time. The Pacwind pictured is a Delta I model. It is rated at 2kw of output at 28mph wind speed. The Skystream puts out the same 2kw of power at just 21mph wind speed. That may not sound like a big difference but in practicality it really is a huge difference in terms of aggregate (total average) power generation per year. Additionally, the Pacwind turbines all require external inverters, battery banks and other components to make them work. The Skystream doesn't need any 'extra' stuff.   Q:  are you selling these with the sunnyboy grid tie inverter or just selling the head. A:  There is no need for an additional inverter. The Skystream has its inverter built into the head unit. In the Skystream head unit you will also find the phase matching system, speed controller, wireless data transmission electronics and other electronics that are constantly monitoring the system to ensure proper operation and will shut down the Skystream if anything is out if the ordinary and restart it when everything is back to normal (such as fluctuations in the current coming from the grid, temperature, over-spinning due to overly high wind speeds etc.)   Q:  If i get the head unit as you are selling what else will i need for me to get this up? What size pipe dia. is required if i go 30 feet and the wire size. As I understand I just simply hook this up to a breaker in my box and it will turn the power meter backwards or will supply power to the grid to help with my bill. So far my bill is about 54.00 a month. thanks, tedwv A:  You will need a tower and the anchor bolts as well as concrete for the base, wire and 20amp 220v breaker and an outside disconect switch. If you are only going out 30ft from your hose you can use #10 gauge wire. A $54 dollar electricity is very low and I am sure many people are very jealous of you. At that level of consumption, buying a turbine won't make much sense unless you will be paid for the surplus by the power company.   Q:  I know there are many variables, but how many of these does it take to power the average farm house, in general. A:  I am pretty knowledgeable about the Skystreams but even I need more info than that! What s your average monthly or yearly electrical consumtion? (check your electricity bill)My father has a farm and he has 3 of these units. They nearly offset his entire electrical usage. He uses ALOT of electricity. He has horse stalls, homes, garages, tool sheds, work shops etc. Typical farm stuff. Call me and we can talk about it more. Carlos 301-252-0042   Q:  HI I LIVE IN NORTH WEST ARKANSAS. DOES ARK HELP WITH THE COST AND WHERE COULD I FIND OUT ABOUT WIND SPEED WERE I LIVE THANKS, JOHN A:  Hi John, please follow these links to find your data. Please call me if yu have any other questions or concerns. Carlos 301-252-0042 U.S. Wind Map http://rredc.nrel.gov/wind/pubs/atlas/maps.html Database of State Incentives for Renewable Energy http://www.dsireusa.org   Q:  Maybe a stupid question. Can I use this windmill with a SMA SWR 2500U Grid tied inverter? Thanks MoneyOx A:  The Skystream has the inverter built into the head unit. There is no need for an additional inverter. If you want to hook it up to a battery bank then you need a CONVERTER to change the current from AC to DC...unless your inverter has an AC power input. Call me if you have any more questions. Carlos 301-252-0042   Q:  Carlos , looking at your pictures what kind of wind generator is that with the blades running vertical, its the one on the right side of the picture thanks Doug A:  That is a Delta I. It produces 2000w (2kw) at 28mph wind speed. The Skystream puts out 2kw at 21mph. Also the Delta requires an inverter, the Skystream has it built it. We are dealers of the Delta series of windturbines. We put this one up so we could have one to show our customers and also to study it in operation. It really is more well suited for high wind areas. In Maryland, a 12mph average wind speed area, it really does not make much power. These would go great on a building rooftop or any other windy area. Let me know if you have any more questions. Carlos 301-252-0042   Q:  I am thinking of buying one of your generators, but I have a farm and our electricity go off often enough that its a headace some times getting animals watered with no electricty, besides a grid tie, I want a battery bank also.I have heard that the ones in the electric forklifts last a lot longer for a battery bank than a bounch of small 6 volts wired together what is your opinion? THANKS AGAIN e-mail is dboatwright0202@msn.com David A:  This is a situation many of my customers worry about. My family also has nearly 20 horses that need to get water - period. Adding a battery bank does have its drawbacks (it costs more and batteries need to be replaced every 6-7 years or so) but the peace of mind quickly outweighs the extra expense. Call me and I can walk you through the set-up for a Skystream with a battery bank back-up. Carlos 301-252-0042. After 6pm EST is best for me. Thanks for your interest and I hope to speak with you soon.   Q:  Hello, Will the power company buy back any unused power this turbine generates, ie can I tie into the grid with this? thanks, robert A:  Robert, this unit is a grid-tie unit! Buy back from the power company depends on the laws in your state. In Pennsylvania the state has a grant that pays for half of the cost of the Skystream and the labor to install it. Pennsylvania also offers net-metering for its residents. Call me with any other questions or concerns. Carlos 301-252-0042 Q:  Hi, are you a licensed Skystream dealer? Thanks--Brian, --Wyoming,ON,CAN. A:  Yes we are! Q:  hello , is the 1.9-2.6kw the total amount of electricity that is put out in what period of time? i am starting to look at wind turbines to supplement my house hold usage. i live in northern Ohio and i worry about ice damaging the turbine. any assistance you could give me would be great. thanks . dave A:  Hi Dave, the 1.9kw to 2.6kw is the HOURLY rated output at 20mph and 25mph wind speeds (PER HOUR). Ice and snow are non-issues. The blades are a carbon fiber composite material that is flexible. Any ice and snow that accumulates while the turbine is not spinning is shed as soon as the blades start spinning. Call me with any more questions. Carlos 301-252-0042   Q:  Where is this unit made? Fred A:  Skystreams are made in Arizona... Good ol' USA! These are not Chinese crappy imports. Southwest stands behind its products and offers great customer service and support.   Q:  carlos, i intend to mount one on a 75ft tall building that has a 10' wall that i can bolt the tower to........where can i find a tower shorter than the 35' that is hinged for servicing??????? bill A:  With this set-up you will need to use guy-wired tower. Unless it is a concrete roof and you can bolt directly into it you will need the guy wires to distribute the forces. How tall off the roof of the building do you plan to be? I recommend at least 20 feet. The 10' wall you describe was surely not designed to hold the moment generated by this wind turbine. This is an interesting situation, please call me and we can discuss it further. Carlos 301-252-0042   Q:  I live in Owings, MD.I am thinking of getting wind power. We have almost 2 acres but, most of it is wooded. How far away can this system be from the house? Could there be two of them installed? Robert A:  Hi Robert. Normally you want to be at least 200-300 feet from any trees. If they are short you can get closer. I suggest that you come to out farm in Dickerson, MD and see the Skystreams (and others) in action. Also, I can come do a site visit for your property. YOu can install as many of them as you need. Call me. Carlos 301-252-0042 (after 6pm is best)   Q:  On the towers, the Marine is for near the ocean right. Is there any other difference? If I order a tower and wind turbine what do I have to do to put it up? Do I need to get a permit or anything? A:  The only difference between the regular and marine version is the head unit on the marine version is powder coated to resist corrosion. You may need a building permit for an accessory structure but it just depends on where you live. Call me for more details 301 252-0042   Q:  Do you sell grid tie inverters separately? A:  There is no need for an external inverter. The Skstream's grid-tie inverter is built in to the head unit. Q:  will the skystream fit on a triangular antenae frame at 4 to 6 meters in height? they seem to be quite strong, but I do not ever see them advertised with any wind generators.. RLL A:  Please do not attempt to do this. It may handle the weight for a few weeks but then it will come crashing down. It can not handle the moment (thrust created by the wind) that this unit produces combined with the weight. Please call me if you have any more questions. I do not want others out there to tell you something is OK just to get you to buy something from them. Carlos 301 252-0042   Q:  Is it possible to charge a 48volt Inverter/battery bank with this unit? What addittional equipment is needed? A:  Yes it is possible. Since the electricity coming out of the head is 220v AC power (110v AC also available) you will need a convertor to change the AC power back into DC to charge your 48v system. This may be a bit of overkill for a standard battery bank! We do have a customer in Canada who is completely off the grid and uses his Skystream to charge a large battery bank and his whole house runs off of the battery bank. Call me with any questions, Carlos   Q:  What is a gin pole kit? A:  A gin pole kit is essentially a large fulcrum lever. In this case it is a metal extension that extends from the base of the tower that allows you to raise up the tower, using a strong cable, with your pick-up truck, tractor, bobcat etc. Otherwise you need to use a crane to get the tower vertical. Renting a crane costs alot more $$$ and must be used everytime the pole needs to come down for whatever reason. The gin pole is very safe and with it you can raise and lower the tower by yourself whenever you need to, such as if a hurricane or tornado is coming etc. Please call me with any more questions, Carlos 301 252-0042 Q:  can 2 or more of these be used together??????? A:  Yes, absolutely. You can use as many as you need/want to offset your electricity bill. Q:  Carlos, I consumed 500 KW monthly, what system I would need? and what the cost would be with out the shipping, I owe a trace inverter model 2012 12 volt and I have a bank of batteries already, please let me know . Best regards, Rommel A:  Hi Rommel, Depending on where you live the Skystream will very conservatively provide 400+kw a month. This figure is derived using the US average wind speed of 12mph. You will get more output if you live in a windier area. With the skytream you do not need a battary bank so there is no need for an inverter unless you want to be off-grid or charge a battery bank for when the grid goes down. Is your inverter a grid tie model? Shipping is paid by everyone, whether you have it delivered to your front door or pick it up from us. Why? Because we have to pay for having it shipped to us! There is no escape from the dreaded shipping charges.   Q:  Don't you also have a web site? Thanks Sam...... A:  Yes we do! it is www.potomacwindenergy.com. My father and I started the company. Both of us have full-time jobs and do this for fun on the side. That is how I can guarantee that we will not be undersold. WE ARE NOT PROFIT MOTIVATED. We genuinely want to get these units out to the public at a reasonable cost so that people will actually buy them! We truly want to help the environment and reduce our dependency on foreign oil and fossil fuels in general. If you respond to this email please type your email address somewhere in your message text or send emails directly to my email address tomahawkcmf@aol.com. I am having technical troubles when responding to emails through ebay, most of the time the emails do not get sent. Thanks, Carlos 301 252-0042   Q:  Carlos I pay about $400 a month on electricity costs. How much do you think I can knock that down by using the skystream(ball park).I live in Olney, MD 20832. Thanks Dean A:  Hi Dean, you do not live too far from me. I can drive down and do an onsite visit if you like. If ou get the 50ft tower this Skystream should save you more than half of your bill. If you respond to this email please type your email address somewhere in your message text or send emails directly to my email address tomahawkcmf@aol.com. I am having technical troubles when responding to emails through ebay, most of the time the emails do not get sent. Thanks, Carlos 301 252-0042   Q:  I am planning to purchase a Marine version with a 60' monopole within the few weeks. Can you ship this to Canada (Nova Scotia) and approximately what would the cost be for the unit with all the goodies (Wireless and USB etc)? A:  The 60ft tower has significant drawbacks. One of them being that the shipping cost is very very high because it not a segmented tower. The second major drawback is that it is not a hinged tower. Most of our Canadian customers drive down to pick up the turbines. I would need an exact shipping address to get a shipping quote. If you respond to this email please type your email address somewhere in your message text. I am having technical troubles when responding to emails through ebay, most of the time the emails do not get sent. Thanks, Carlos 301 252-0042   Q:  Hi I see you mention a customer in Canada in the Questions area. I am in Canada. I was wondering about shipping. Usually I have items shipped to Port Huron Michigan (48060) but the tower would be a problem for me. Have you shipped to Canada? Can you provide a cost (separately for the Tower and Head). How big (inches) and heavy (lbs) is the head unit? Thanks John A:  Most of our Canadian customers drive down to pick up the turbines. I would need an exact shipping address to get a shipping quote. If you respond to this email please type your email address somewhere in your message text. I am having technical troubles when responding to emails through ebay, most of the time the emails do not get sent. Thanks, Carlos 301 252-0042   Q:  hello, what is the shippingcost and the taxes to Belgium (europe)? What is the price to modify it from 60hz to 50hz? What is the shippingcost of an 45ft pole to belgium thank you for the infi A:  The 50hz Eurpoean version is available and requires no modification. I can not recommend shipping the 45ft pole overseas, it would cost a small fortune. Consider the 50ft pole. It is segmented and it would cost much less to ship. Call me or email me again with your exact address and I will get a shipping quote for you. Thanks for your interest, Carlos (301) 252-0042.   Q:  Hi, I know very little on these units, but this is the best one that I have found. I am wanting to go off the grid, do you have more info or a place I can find more info on how to hook this into my house, and a little about how it works?? Thanks and God Bless Lynn A:  Hi Lynn, I am the 'go-to guy' when it comes to these Sksytream units. We have a customer in Canada is completely off the grid (was never connected) using the Skystream to charge his battery bank. Everything in the house then runs off of the battery bank. Please give me a call and we can discuss your particular situation in greater detail. Thanks, Carlos 301 252-0042   Q:  How much will it cost for complete installation? I live in Olney, MD. Thanks Dean A:  It depends on which height tower you want and what your specific situation is, ie the distance from the house to the tower, Please give me a call and we can discuss in greater detail. Thanks, Carlos 301 252-0042   Q:  Hi I had a question about hook up. Can you use this along with the local power company to supply my house? Do you need a seperate power box for the wind and for the power company? A:  Yes, this is a grid-tie unit which allows you to tie into the grid (as the name implies) so you still draw power from the grid when you need it and when the Skystream is producing more power than what you are consuming the excess gets sent back into the grid where you get a credit from the power company. There is only one meter used. Call your power company, get them to send you an INTERCONNECTION AGREEMENT, they will install a new 'net-metering' meter free of charge that will measure exactly how much electricity you are pushing back out into the grid and then subtracts that amount from the amount of electricity you consumed from the grid. the 'NET' result is how much electricity you will be billed for. Call me with any more questions. Carlos 301-252-0042   Q:  Hi Carlos, I was going to call you and ask some questions, but I thought your other readers may be interested in my questions also, this is what I would like to do you tell me if this is possible, in Illinois the rules and regulation make it nearly impossible to justify one of these units , the utility company requires a separate meter for back feeding into the grid, a manual disconnect switch, insurance to protect their equipment and so on, the electric that you would sell to the utility would never offset these expenses,is there a company that makes a diode that could be installed in your line that would allow electric to flow into your house but not back into the grid, and then is there a charge controller , or some unit that would dump excess electric to another source, like maybe heating a tank of water that could be used for some other purpose, I just need some way of not having to depend on the utility company for the excess electric that this unit would produce. Thanks Doug A:  Good Questions: 1) the power companies in the US are FEDERALLY REQUIRED TO GIVE YOU A NET METERING METER FREE OF CHARGE AND INSTALL IT FREE OF CHARGE. They may charge you an application fee for the Interconnection Agreement but the meter must be free. 2) an outdoor manual disconnect switch is required by most states. The good news is they only cost around 10 dollars and are available at any Lowe's or Home Depot. 3) Insurance is around 100 dollars a year and is usually not required by the power company. You have to show the power company that the Skystream is UL listed and automatically shuts off when the grid goes down (to protect their line workers) and also shuts down if it malfunctions for any reason. The Skystream is not some homemade piece of crap. ALOT of engineering has gone into it. The amount of money that the SKystream will save you year after year more than offsets any of these intitial expenses. DO NOT LET THE POWER COMPANY TRY TO SCARE YOU OFF. Of course they want to make it hard for you to install one of these. They know you are taking money out of their gold lined pockets. Thankfully the federal government doesn't allow them to block it and laws have been enacted to help us lowly citizens to make our own safe electricity. If you want to set up the Skystream to charge a battery bank there is a battery sensor that regulates the Skystream and ensures that your battery bank doesn't over charge. Add a grid-tie inverter to this and you will pump the excess electricity into the grid and get credit from the power company. With that set-up no diversion load is required. The 'diversion' is the extra juice going back into the grid which the power company will either pay you for or give you a credit on your bill.   Q:  Does this wind turbine plug in to the grid to sell power back to the electric company or do you need the battery banks & etc? A:  The Skystream hooks into your household wiring through your standard breaker panel. It is wired just like an electric clothes drier using a 20amp 220v breaker. Within a few milliseconds it automatically matches up with the current from the grid using its internal phase matching circuitry. When the Skystream produces more power than your household can use the surplus is automatically pushed back out into the grid. This is fully automated and requires no intervention. THERE IS NO NEED FOR BATTERY BANKS. Although you can if you want power when the grid goes down. The Skystream can then be used to charge the battery bank directly. Call me for more info. Carlos, 301-252-0042   Q:  What happens when there is a lightning strike? will the system have a sufficient ground. I worry about a potential fire in the house due to a lightning strike. Marc A:  Essentially, the unit is its own huge lightning grounding rod. There is very little chance for a fire since there is an outside disconnect switch/breaker as well as the breaker inside the breaker panel.   Q:  hello, are you producing a pure or mod.sine wave from your inverter? thanks A:  The Skystream has an internal inverter which is a grid-tie type pure sine wave. The inverter and the phase matching electronics are all built into the head. NO EXTERNAL INVERTER REQUIRED! Call me with any more questions 301-252-0042   Q:  Are there different versions of the 3.7 that are 120v and 240v? Or is there only one type that can produce both voltages? A:  Yes the Skystream comes in 120v or 240v and must be ordered that way. You can't change the voltage without a converter. So make sure you order the one that you want! Most people get the 240v set-up. It is slightly more efficient than the 120v especially when the turbine is far from your house. (less line loss). Both the 120v and the 240v have far less line loss than a turbine which produces DC power. That is the main advantage of AC power over DC power. Call me if you have more questions. Carlos 301-252-0042   Q:  How noisy is the system. Will I disturb my Neighbours. Marc A:  Hi Marc, The wind rustling the leaves on a tree is louder than the Skystream. Yes, you hear the wind going over the blades but that is 33-50 feet up. You barely hear it. It will not annoy your neighbors. We have set these up right next to horse stalls and other livestock areas and the animals are NOT bothered in the slightest by the Skystream. Please call me with any other questions or concerns. Carlos 301-252-0042   Q:  Hi I have a cottage on Lake Manitoba which is in central Canada. Your system comes with an inverter. besides the the pole and special meter for Hydro. Do I need any other special equipment? Is your unit CSA approved. This is a requirement for Manitoba Hydro. Marc A:  The Skystream is approved for use in Canada. Many of them are already up and producing electricity in Canada. The inverter and phase matching electronic gizmos are already installed in the head unit. No other special equipment is required except for a disconnect switch between the system and your main home's breaker panel. Thanks for your interest and call me directly with any more questions. 301-252-0042   Q:  Do you know when the 3.7 will be available in the battery charging version? The system I have now is a non-grid tie SW5548 Xantrex. I went with the non grid tie due to the extreme Hz (56 to 63) and voltage fluctuations (94 to 132) and do not feel a grid connect system would stay on line. My 67' tower has been waiting for over a year. I did have a Lakota, it didn't survive the marine environment on the windy coast of Alaska. 300' from the Bearing Sea Thanks Mark in Platinum Ak A:  Here's what you do. You get the Skystream 3.7 with the 'Battery Controller'. This shuts down the system when the batteries are fully charged and turns the unit back on when the batteries go below a pre-set voltage. There are other options available to you so... call me and we can discuss them! 301-252-0042   Q:  hi, I'm interested in what you might have that I could hook up to a turbo genset g21-s 400kw generator head. I live in PA where the winds are not prominent, although we seem to get some real gusts where I live. A:  This Genset g21 generator head produces 400kw at 29,000 RPMs. You would need a very large engine with some serious gearing to attain 29k RPMs with enough torque. 400kw output is certainly not a residential application and I urge you to use extreme caution when dealing with this unit. Usually anything over 10kw requires that you get a special co-generation licensing agreement with the power company. Here in Maryland the power company charges $10,000 just for the application to become a co-generator. There are HUGE liability issues that are associated with becoming a co-generator. Do you have a chart that shows the output of this unit at different rpm levels? Please call me or email me direct at 301 252-0042 tomahawkcmf@aol.com and we can talk about this more. Q:  Can you put up more than 1 system to double the output back into the grid when my house is not using the power? A:  Yes you can put up as many units as you want. Use the power generated for yourself or to sell back to the power company.   Q:  I am very interesting to buy one. But I need some time to make the final decision. I am contacting my local service company to make sure they can set up for me. I think it will take 2-3 weeks. It should be around Dec. 15. I saw it will be ended in 3 days. So my question is that are you going to continue to put this on ebay? I am looking to hearing from you. Thanks! Susan A:  Go ahead and call me whenever you are ready to buy or if you need me to answer any questions. The power company may want to see some engineering specs and I can email those to you as well. Just let me know if I can help you in any way. I relist this auction week after week... so have no fear, I will still be here! Carlos 301-252-0042   Q:  Hello , I am located in central texas it is classified as zone 2 wind with an average speed of 10-12 mph . I am located on an open area with lots of pastures around me , it seems very windy all the time here. I would like to know if this turbine will work in that type of wind ? I am just getted started looking for a generator and it seems like this is a good one . Also my home is a new construction with blown foam insulation and geothermal central heat and air . I am not sure what my bills would be with traditional insulation since this is a new construction. Supposedly with the foam and geothermal I have saved 40% on my bill already . Could this generator by itself possibly get me to the break even level ? Mainly wanted to know if it work in a zone 2 wind ? thanks Brian R A:  Yes, this unit sounds like it will take care of all of your energy needs especially since your house already sounds very energy efficient. The Skystream will work in zone 2 winds very well. That is the same average wind speed as we have in here in Maryland. Call me if you have any more questions. Carlos 301-252-0042     .
