This is the finest example we have ever encountered, studded with forty-one various 17th to 20th Century coins, predominantly of German origin with a single of Liechtenstein and capped by a Prussian 1903 Five Mark piece, probably indicating the date of manufacture. Fully hallmarked with the stamp of Johann Wagner & Sohn on the foot edge. Wagner is the famous court jeweler and maker of orders and decorations for the Prussian Orders Chancellory. Their house was located in Berlin. This tankard is likely a specially ordered presentation piece. With the lid centerpiece being a Prussian 5 Mark of Kaiser Wilhelm the II, this tankard may be an homage gift to the Kaiser or a gift from the Kaiser himself. Regardless, this .800 fine silver tankard is of the highest artistry and skilled workmanship. Each coin was hand selected and placed with purpose. This tankard is a who's who of the German empire and the royal Prussia house. The entire lid is composed of the ruling kings and forefathers of Wilhelm II from the title assumption of King in Prussia in 1701 to the then current date of 1903. The tankard itself is composed mostly of Thalers or Guldens and appear to be of the many lands that were possessed by Prussia in 1903. Every coin is different, with a different portrait ruler and in some instances of a historic event. All are when possible portrait side facing out inset against a floral motif design.
